Fishery Rules

FISHING RULES

  • All persons 17 years and over must pay for a permit before going on the Lake. These cost £8.00 and are available from Lakeside shop. A fishing license from the Natural Resources Wales/Environment Agency is also needed. These are available from most Post Offices. (Not required for under 12 years old).
  • Do not enter the exclusion zones. See exclusion zone map here.
  • There is a speed limit of 8 kilometres per hour (5 mph) for all craft on the lake.
  • Fishing is only from boats. No bank fishing is allowed. Boats can be hired from Lakeside shop.  No live bait is to be introduced into the lake from off site.
  • No mooring to the exclusion zone buoys. Be aware that the slalom skiing course is connected with steel wire, which will snag your lines which could result in you losing your tackle! The slalom course should be considered a 'no go' area when ski boats are on the lake.
  • Do not leave litter in the boats, especially fishing line and plastics which can prove fatal to wildlife if eaten.
  • All fish must be handled with care and consideration and returned to the lake unharmed. Any person found in breach of this rule will not be welcome back. If someone has mishandled fish please report to management as soon as possible. Advice for handling fish can be found here.
  • Fishing is only allowed during daylight hours, please make sure you return in good time.

EXCLUSION ZONES - See exclusion zone map

  • No craft may enter the permanent exclusion zone marked red on the map and with red buoys on the lake (exception - from 1st Feb to 14th March fishing boats may enter the western exclusion zone but go no closer than 25m from the edge of the reed bed, any trolling in the restricted zone is preferably by electric motor or rowing).
  • Between the 9th Nov and 14th March no craft should enter the summer avoidance/ winter exclusion zones marked yellow on the map and by yellow buoys on the Lake.
  • From the 14th March until 9th Nov fishing boats may enter the summer avoidance/ winter exclusion zone marked yellow on the map and by yellow buoys on the lake but crafts with engines are asked to reduce their use of this zone whenever possible.

GUIDELINES

  • At busier times, if you moor near to other fishermen it will encourage other lake users (e.g. water skiers and sailors) to go around your boats rather than between you.
  • Protect your sport by behaving in a responsible manner.
  • Please note we do not supply anchors with the hire of fishing boats. You are advised to bring your own.
  • Do not fish/moor near to the large blue buoys (barrels) as these are the sailing clubs race buoys and it can get very busy around them during races (mostly Sunday but can be anytime), they may ask you to relocate please heed their advice.

SAFETY WARNINGS

When hiring or using your own watercraft please be aware of your own limitations and the prevailing weather conditions.  All water activities can be potentially hazardous and are undertaken at your own risk. It is not advised to go onto the lake in strong winds. It is not advised to go onto the lake whilst under the influence of alcohol!

WE STRONGLY ADVISE ALL LAKE USERS TO WEAR BUOYANCY AIDS
